Spa city in the Ouachita Mountains. Mary Louise "Lou" Veazey grew up here. Fred Scharf, born in Karlsruhe and trained as a mining engineer at the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, came here for work and met her; the 1960 city directory still lists him in Hot Springs. The couple later moved to Tulsa, where Fred rose to president of the engineering firm Fenix & Scisson.
