Biography

Chuna-Dawid Estrajcher was born on 4 December 1917 in Sosnowiec, a son of Symcha Binem Estrajcher and Estera Laja Ernst. Between 9 and 23 April 1945 he was held at the Flossenbürg concentration camp in Bavaria. He was registered as a displaced person at Bergen-Belsen on 24 September 1945, with a further registration card there in July 1947. In 1947, at the Bergen-Belsen DP camp, he married Rosa Abramowicz, and on 9 June 1950 the family — recorded under the head-of-household name David Estreicher — emigrated to the United States via Bremerhaven. They had two sons, Samuel and Herbert. He petitioned for naturalisation in New York on 27 February 1956, and in 1987 was living on Holland Avenue in the Bronx.
